Peyton Leigh stands by the snow-covered shores of Niagara-on-the-Lake, a stark contrast to the sunny waters that await her.

🏊‍♀️ Niagara-on-the-Lake’s Peyton Leigh is heading to the University of Miami, taking a major step toward her Olympic dreams!

The 17-year-old swimmer from Holy Cross Secondary has worked tirelessly, logging over 20 hours of training per week and setting personal bests at top competitions like the Speedo Canadian Junior Championships.

Peyton chose Miami over Penn State and Alabama, drawn to its tight-knit team and personalized coaching. She’s excited for the challenge of NCAA Division I competition and hopes to qualify for the Canada Junior Team, and ultimately, the 2028 Olympics.

Her mom, Christi, is soaking in the last year and a half before Peyton trades cold winters for Miami sunshine. “I know she’ll thrive—it’s the best decision for her,” she said.

Congrats, Peyton! 🎉

🍽️ Matt’s Food Review: Nina Gelateria & Pastry Shop

Located in Old Town, Nina Gelateria & Pastry Shop is a sweet tooth’s dream.

Whether you’re a local or just strolling through, this charming shop offers pastries, crepes, and artisanal gelato so good they should come with a warning—once you try them, you’ll be back for more.

Their pastries are delicate and flavourful, while the crepes are made fresh to order with fillings like fruit, Nutella, and maple syrup. And their gelato? Let’s just say, if happiness had a flavour, it would be found in one of those scoops.

As a self-proclaimed coffee snob, I can confirm—their coffee is top-notch. Whether you need a strong espresso to power through sightseeing or a smooth latte to pair with your pastry, they’ve got you covered.

Beyond the food, the service is excellent. The staff are friendly, attentive, and always ready to brighten your day—as if the sugar rush wasn’t already doing that. While the shop is busy in the summer, the winter months turn it into a cozy retreat.

If you love great desserts, coffee, and warm hospitality, Nina Gelateria & Pastry Shop is a must-visit—just don’t blame me when you become a regular!
