NOTL Witnesses Stunning Blood Moon – A Celestial Spectacle 🌕

Residents of Niagara-on-the-Lake were treated to a breathtaking celestial event on the night of March 14, 2025, as a total lunar eclipse, commonly known as a Blood Moon, cast a deep red glow over the sky. The rare phenomenon, caused by the Earth passing directly between the Sun and the Moon, was visible across much of North America—including right here in NOTL.

A Night to Remember in NOTL

Local skywatchers had prime viewing conditions, with clear skies offering an unobstructed view of the eclipse. From waterfront parks to open fields and even backyards, residents gathered to witness the transformation of the Moon.

• Partial Eclipse Began: 1:09 AM

• Total Eclipse (Blood Moon): 2:26 AM – 3:31 AM

• Eclipse Ended: 6:00 AM

As the Moon entered Earth’s shadow, it gradually turned a deep copper-red, creating an eerie yet mesmerizing scene above the historic town. Many locals shared photos and experiences on social media, capturing the beauty of the night.

When’s the Next Total Lunar Eclipse?

For those who missed this stunning event, the next total lunar eclipse will occur on September 7, 2025. However, it won’t be visible from NOTL, as the eclipse will take place during daylight hours. This means you’ll likely have to wait until this time next year for another chance to get your eyes on such a sight!
