🇨🇦 Canada Day in NOTL: History, Community & Celebration
Canada Day in Niagara-on-the-Lake is something truly special—a unique blend of small-town charm, patriotic pride, and rich heritage. And at the heart of it all is Fort George, where the past comes to life and the celebration stretches from morning to night.
On July 1st, Fort George will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.—and admission is free all day. Visitors can explore the historic grounds, meet costumed interpreters, sample 19th-century treats, and enjoy demonstrations of muskets and cannons. Throughout the day, live entertainment, activities, and family-friendly programming will take place both at the fort and just across the street in Simcoe Park.
Starting at 11:00 a.m., the Rotary Club BBQ fires up in the park alongside kids’ activities and live music. At 3:00 p.m., the beloved Cake Parade—led by the 41st Regiment Fife & Drum Corps—makes its way down Queen Street for a sweet community moment (courtesy of Willow Cakes & Pastries).
Later in the evening, things shift back to Fort George with food, performances, and the fan-favourite Kiddie Militia drill before the sky lights up at 10:00 p.m. with a fireworks finale by Garden City Fireworks.
Whether you’re new to town or a longtime local, Canada Day in NOTL is a chance to come together, celebrate the community, and honour the history that makes this place so unique.
🎨🌿 Art & Gardens: Two Local Events to Mark on Your Calendar
While June is almost over, July in NOTL is full of colour—and not just from summer blooms. Two upcoming events invite you to slow down, explore, and enjoy the creative spirit of the community. Whether you’re drawn to brushstrokes or flowerbeds, there’s something for everyone.
🎨 Summer Haven – A Solo Exhibit by Robert Crosby
📍 Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre | June 25 – July 27
Opening Reception: Sunday, July 6 | 2:00–4:00 p.m. | Artist remarks at 2:30 p.m.
The Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre presents Summer Haven, a solo exhibition by Canadian realist Robert Crosby. Inspired by summers spent painting by the sea, this body of work captures the charm of coastal life—nostalgic scenes of boats, shorelines, and quiet moments that invite reflection.

The exhibit runs through July 27, and visitors are invited to join the opening reception on Sunday, July 6, featuring remarks from the artist himself. With its blend of technical skill and emotional resonance, Summer Haven provides a serene and contemplative escape from the everyday.

🕓 Gallery Hours: Tues–Sun, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. (Closed Mondays & Holidays)
🌿 Gardener’s Garden Tour – Explore NOTL’s Hidden Greenspaces
🗓️ Saturday, July 12 | 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
The 2025 Gardener’s Garden Tour, hosted by the Niagara-on-the-Lake Horticultural Society, returns for another year of inspiration and beauty. This self-guided tour takes you through a curated selection of private gardens—each one carefully nurtured by local Horticultural Society members who open their gates for just one day.
Alongside the blooms and pathways, this event supports horticultural scholarships at both Niagara College and the Niagara Parks School of Horticulture, making it a tour with purpose.
Perfect for garden lovers, weekend wanderers, or anyone in need of a little nature therapy.
