🗓️ TODAY IN NOTL

❄️ Cold, snowy, and very January

Temperatures are sitting well below zero this morning, with snow and blowing flurries possible throughout the day. Roads and sidewalks may be slick, so take it slow if you’re heading out early.

🎒 If you’re reading this and it’s a snow day — congrats.

Snow days are typically announced by 6 a.m., and with NOTL News landing in inboxes at 7 a.m., this should technically give us enough time to update today’s article. That said, we value our beauty sleep — and after two snow days in recent weeks, we wouldn’t put it past today to join the list.

Celebrating 80 Years — with Niagara Motors

This year, Niagara Motors marks 80 years in Niagara-on-the-Lake — eight decades of serving local drivers, supporting community initiatives, and building relationships rooted in trust and care.

To celebrate the milestone, they’re inviting the community to take part in something simple (and rewarding): Test Drive & Win, running throughout January.

From January 1–31, anyone who test drives a vehicle at Niagara Motors will receive:

  • A guaranteed $10 Tim Hortons gift card, and

  • An entry to win a $100 gas gift card

At Niagara Motors, service is about more than maintaining your vehicle — it’s about showing care in the moments that matter. Through their Health Check for Change, every qualifying service includes a winter-focused inspection, and $10 from each check is donated to SickKids and MacKids, helping support local children’s hospitals. It’s a simple way to drive safely through winter while giving back to the community.

There’s no pressure and no obligation — many people are simply stopping by to see what’s new or get behind the wheel out of curiosity.

January also brings several programs locals are taking advantage of right now:

  • No payments for up to 90 days on eligible new vehicles

  • 0% financing on select 2026 crew cabs

  • New rate reductions on Buick SUVs, with 0% up to 60 months on 2026 Envisions

  • A $2,500 manufacturer rebate for drivers trading in a 2015 or newer truck or crew cab

  • A $1,500 rebate toward a Buick Envision for eligible Ford Escape owners

After 80 years, Niagara Motors remains focused on showing up for the community — year after year. Whether you’re actively shopping or just curious, Test Drive & Win is an easy way to be part of the celebration.

We’ve always loved knowing how people read NOTL News — but we’re just as curious about where you’re reading from.

Is this part of your morning routine while you’re still in bed? A quiet moment at the kitchen table before the day starts? Maybe you’re sneaking a scroll at work (we won’t tell your boss), reading along on a walk, or catching up over coffee at your favourite café.

However and wherever you read, we’re grateful you make space for it. NOTL News is meant to fit into real life — the everyday moments, routines, and pauses that make this town feel like home.

📌 On Our Radar This Week

Every week, we keep a short list of places we’re hoping to check out — spots we’ve been meaning to try, revisit, or spend a little more time at over the coming days.

If there’s somewhere you think we should be stopping by, let us know. We’re always taking notes, and there’s a good chance you’ll spot us tucked into one of these places soon.

Here’s what’s on our radar this week:

Known for their freshly made chimney cakes, this is the kind of stop that instantly warms you up on a cold day. Perfect for a quick treat, a walk through Old Town, or an excuse to step inside when winter is doing its thing.

A classic NOTL pub with hearty food, a welcoming atmosphere, and regular live music that makes winter evenings feel a little less quiet. A great spot to settle in, catch a tune, and enjoy a relaxed night out.

A locally loved shop filled with thoughtfully curated goods from Canadian makers. Always worth a visit — especially in January — whether you’re browsing, gift-hunting, or just popping in to support local.

Help Shape NOTL News

As NOTL News continues to grow, we’re looking to thoughtfully expand our team.

We’re currently exploring the addition of a relationship-focused account manager to help support our local business partners and keep NOTL News growing in a sustainable, community-first way. If you’re interested in connecting and learning more about how you could get involved, we’d love to chat.
